Changing the way industry works.

For nearly 50 years, Standard Abrasives has manufactured innovative, high-quality, abrasive products used by the metal-working trades and industries and has continued to be the leading supplier of premium abrasive specialties.

The SocAtt®, metallic, quick-change attachment system revolutionized the abrasives business in the late-1950s. Even today, it remains the overwhelming choice in heavy industry for mounting abrasive discs to power tools. The socket is on the discs and accepts a threaded pin on a "holder pad" mounted in the power tool. SocAtt® is a simple, quick and secure method of disc attachment.

One of Standard Abrasives most significant innovations was its 1959 introduction of the SocAtt® system of attaching abrasive discs to power tools. This patented, all-metal, quick-disconnect fastening system is the most common method of mounting discs in manufacturing, aerospace and other industrial environments.

Standard Abrasives’ very successful, BriteRite® line of non-woven, abrasive discs debuted in 1979. Since then, it has grown to over 70 products and has become Standard Abrasives’ flagship brand.

In 1983, after years of sustained growth, the company enhanced its presence in the eastern U.S. with its first major acquisition, a coated abrasives manufacturing facility in Ohio.

Nineteen ninety-four was a pivotal year for Standard Abrasives. It opened a dedicated, BriteRite® manufacturing plant in Hesperia, California and, in an aggressive move into the automotive market, formed the Motor Sports Division.

In 1997, Standard Abrasives dedicated a large, modern facility in Simi Valley, California which combined part of its manufacturing along with research and development, testing, warehousing, training operations, Motor Sports Division and corporate offices at one location. In 1998, the Hesperia facility achieved ISO9001 certification and, in 2002, it was doubled in size.

The Standard Abrasives Motor Sports Division was founded to market specialty abrasives to a wide range of automotive industry segments, such as: component re-manufacturers and re-builders, professional race teams, automotive dealer service departments, independent garages, truck and bus fleet maintenance departments, professional race engine and chassis builders, classic car restorers, custom motorcycle fabricators, car hobbyists and amateur racers.
