How much horsepower will I gain by porting and polishing my heads?
While the answer depends greatly on your particular engine combination, from older, cast iron V8 heads, you can expect an increase of between 10 and 20hp by simply removing all the casting flaws that are found in the ports of most stock heads. Your gains will be even more if you do some detail work in the valve bowls (also known as the "pockets") and the exhaust port areas. A 15 to 30 HP gain is not uncommon.
Can I do a complete porting job with your Deluxe Porting Kit?
It depends on the condition of the heads you are working on and whether they are iron or aluminum. If extensive work is required, additional products may be necessary to complete the job.
Can I run your products in my Dremel tool?
No. You should use an air-powered die grinder, either straight or right angle or an electric grinder. Either must have a 1/4" collet and a maximum speed of 25,000-rpm.
If I need more individual products, can I buy them separately?
Yes, all the products included in the kits are available separately. The part numbers are included in each kit.
What is the best way to use the Cross Buffs for the final finish process?
Slowing the speed of your air tool speed to about half of what it was when you used Cartridge Rolls. Use less pressure to increase the life of the Cross Buffs. Lastly, a spray lubricant (such as WD-40) will help improve the finish of the port or bore as well as increase the useful life of the product.
