BriteRite® Surface Conditioning Discs
Commonly referred to as “cookies,” these discs are made from nylon non-woven abrasive material in our ISO 9001:2000 certified facility in Hesperia, California. They are very durable, resulting in quick cutting and longer edge life. The most common automotive application for these discs is gasket removal.
Power Zirc Sanding Discs
Our Power Zirc Sanding Discs have a distinctive green grain that can be used for aggressive surface conditioning or deburring. They are ideal for use on hardened surfaces such as freshly turned brake rotors. Generally, they are used to prepare a flat surface prior to painting. The Power Zirc contains a special lubricant that allows the disc to run cooler while grinding, which increases the overall life of the disc.
An interesting application of Power Zirc Sanding Discs is the preparation of clutch assemblies used in Top Fuel Dragsters, Nitro Funny Cars and other drag racing applications which require a centrifugal-type "slipper" clutch. After each run a Top Fueler makes down a drag strip, the clutch is changed. T/F teams carry several clutches and after each one is used, it is rebuilt and part of that rebuilding is abrading the friction surfaces of the flywheel, floater plates and pressure plate with a sanding disc.
Cross Buffs®
The Standard Abrasives Cross Buff® was originally designed for automotive applications, specifically deburring, de-rusting or refinishing of small bore cylinders such as master brake clutch cylinders, drum brake wheel cylinders, clutch slave cylinders, small diameter brake caliper piston bores and any other aluminum, iron or steel cylinder of 1.5" or smaller diameter which needs to be honed. When used to refinish small bores, Cross Buffs® should be lubricated with a light oil, such as WD40 and driven with an electric drill rather than a die grinder. Other uses for Cross Buffs® are included in our Do-it-Yourself pages.
FLAP WHEELS
Small Flap Wheels can be used for deburring and de-rusting tasks to the outside of metal objects having edges, corners and other angular surfaces. A unique property of a flap wheel is its ability to mildly abrade angular surfaces by conforming to the profile of the object. Standard Abrasives’ Flap Wheels must be used with a special mandrel assembly, also available from Standard Abrasives. Additional information on the use of Flap Wheels is included in our Do-it-Yourself pages.
DELUXE PORTING KIT
The Standard Abrasives Deluxe Porting Kit was originally designed for Do-It-Yourselfers who want to port and polish the cylinder heads of various different types of engines. However, the Deluxe Porting Kit has become a "general purpose abrasive assortment" for professional service technicians. It remains a popular item to stock on tool trucks because of the versatility of its various abrasive products. The kit’s components can be used to hone brake cylinders, deburr and clean index holes on brake drums and rotors, deburr and de-rust ends of tubing prior to welding, elongate holes of mismatched panels, and a variety of other tasks. There is more information about how the Deluxe Porting Kit can be used for tasks other than head porting in our Do-it-Yourself pages.
